Diplomacy Begins at the Door

After surviving the vacuum, the DogDaily newsroom receives a hopeful signal: the leash moves. A walk may be imminent. The dog delegation assembles with extreme seriousness and uncontrolled tail activity.

Panel 1: The leash is spotted

The leash hangs by the door, silent but powerful. One dog sees it first and freezes. Another dog spins in place. The lead editor calls for calm, then immediately runs to the entryway.

Panel 2: Shoes create expectations

A human puts on one shoe. This is not a casual development. Under Leash & Order precedent, shoe deployment creates a reasonable expectation of outdoor activity.

Panel 3: Talks begin

The dog delegation sits beautifully. A small terrier brings a notepad. A senior retriever presents the leash as evidence. The human says, “Just a minute.” The room gasps.

Panel 4: The phrase that broke the table

The human says, “After this call.” Negotiations collapse. One dog stares at the door. Another stares at the human. A third dog begins slow, meaningful whining for the record.

Panel 5: Settlement reached

The call ends. The leash clips. The door opens. The delegation exits with diplomatic dignity, then immediately forgets diplomacy and sniffs everything on the block.

The walk is declared successful. The dogs return home with new intelligence, several leaf updates, and one unresolved question: why did this not happen ten minutes earlier?
